The Birth of VERY TALL RABBIT
THE BIRTH OF VERY TALL RABBIT
As a kid, television filled a void. We watched it to kill time, to amuse ourselves, to see what was happening in the world. But sometimes TV Guide would tell us that something incredible was coming. A few examples? New episodes of “Dark Shadows.” Saturday mornings with Scooby Doo. The baseball All-Star Game. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The moon landing.
Those were all amazing—but what really excited us was when the movie Harvey would come on network television. Harvey is the story of a very tall (6-foot-tall!), invisible rabbit. James Stewart played Elwood P. Dowd, the rabbit’s best friend in the film. In fact, no one could see Harvey except for Elwood.
Elwood was extraordinarily normal, despite a bit of a drinking problem. He was considered one of the nicest guys in town—so nobody made too much of a fuss about Harvey being invisible and all. That is, until Elwood’s sister began to blame Elwood’s eccentricity for her inability to land a suitable husband. That’s when things got ugly.
Watch a bit of Harvey here. Thank me later.
So, when it came time to name my new band with Stevie Cornell and Alan Weiss, the words “Very Tall Rabbit” somehow came to mind. Though my bandmates didn’t see the rabbit, they agreed the name had a pleasant ring to it. So here we are. Very Tall Rabbit.

His name is Eddie. Or it may be Tips. His family is huge and he comes to all our shows. Why did he adopt us, of all people?
